Riding a century in Alaska is truly a bucket-list endurance expedition through the Last Frontier. The riding calendar is concentrated almost exclusively between June and August, when high mountain passes are clear of snowfall and long days offer endless visibility. Iconic corridors like the Glenn Highway, Seward Highway along Turnagain Arm, and the Richardson Highway showcase towering mountains directly abutting deep fjords and broad river valleys. Riders must prepare diligently for unpredictable subarctic weather swings: bright sunshine can quickly give way to chilly alpine breezes and sudden coastal rain showers. Layers, high-visibility illumination, and self-sufficiency are vital. In return, cyclists are treated to pristine air, dramatic grandeur, and the unmatched thrill of pedaling 100 continuous miles across one of North America's last great wildernesses.
