Idaho is one of the Northwest's best-kept secrets for endurance cycling, featuring pristine mountain air, crystal-clear glacial rivers, and dramatic mountain scenery. In the panhandle, century riders pedal around the sparkling shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene and along the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes. In Central Idaho, routes wind beneath the jagged peaks of the Sawtooth Mountains and through sunlit valleys surrounding Sun Valley. The riding season runs from late spring through early autumn, with long summer days and low humidity creating near-perfect cycling conditions. Courses range from rolling agricultural valleys along the Snake River to multi-thousand-foot alpine pass climbs. Light vehicle traffic, excellent road shoulders, and rugged wilderness backdrops make Idaho a must-ride state for adventurous cyclists seeking unspoiled western beauty.
